Today we have a number of pictures of Michelle setting up a “table
loom”, which is a small loom fit for making small projects. It can make
things like napkins, place settings, belts, etc. She’s taking the class
at a store in boulder that sells looms, yarn, spinning wheels, etc to
discover whether it it is something she enjoys, and if so, would it be a
good thing for me to try to build a loom?. Seems that her teacher is
trying to discourage that, suggesting instead that we should buy a loom,
then build a second loom. Looms are spendy things, (several thousand
dollars isn’t too unusual, and even kits are over a thousand) but prices
for things made on looms on places like etsy.com look to be a somewhat
lucrative. Yes, it’s time consuming, but so are video games, and if a
loom trips the same mental trigger as video games or slot machines, it
seems a much more consistently enriching endeavor. I wonder if anyone
has intentionally attempted to substitute something like weaving to wean
someone off of video games before… Oh, there are some boring pictures of
my yard, too.
