I have a most odd macintosh for my workstation. It’s a xserv, intended for the computer room. It comes with no video adaptor port (but i could put a PCI adapter in it), its USB was version 1 (so i had to buy a PCI USB 2.0 to use the other PCI slot), and it has no sound. Well that’s not true, it has lots of sound, as long as the sound you desire resembles a jet engine. But it runs MacOS and lets me have both a pleasing user interface and a command line to play with. I bought an iMic from Griffin, a USB sound device which supposedly works for a mac or a PC. Now that I have headphones connected to this machine, I can hear mistakes as i make them. Pretty cool.
xserv,
