some late movie reviews..

actually not everything I watch is about the end of the world. I watched a few this past weekend and feel like commenting on them to give me something to do for the moment..

Timecode (2000) This was a gimmick movie, but i think that it sorta simulates baving 4 conversations on IM at a time. The whole movie was shot in the time it took to watch it. There were 4 camera crews, and the screen is divided into 4 screens the whole time, with the raw footage taken from each camera. Characters transition frome one camera to another as conversations break up, or you see them join each other on one screen baving been watching them individually. The sound is edited so that you hear the most relevant conversation, and they’re alternatively mixed in and out so that you hear the most important bit to forward the plot. SOmetimes these cuts are sudden, and you’re looking around for the speaker, wherever he or she is.

Meetings With Remarkable Men (???) I found this one on the torrents by looking for Gurdjieff. I think I now have all of the commonly available videos about the Fourth Way, the three documentaries plus this fictionalized version of his second book.

I could go off about Gurdjieff for a while, but won’t here. This is a “the mystic as a young man” kind of movie, and in this case our hero created the cult that, as far as I know, brought the enneagram to the world, although not in the way that the personality types people use it. It’s a typical hero’s journey, with unexpected teachers and quests. The story follows the book prety well, but like any such movie, misses the subtleties found in a book that attempts to reprogram the microcode of your brain.
