I got a new .. um. writing, uh, thingie.
I got a new .. um. writing, uh, thingie.
this is the place i can go back to typing just me and my text this a bit a like when i was younger except i can edit.
i used to use a typewriter for some of my earliest journals.
But since you will read this as just one more journal entry, i should describe something..
When I was journaling like crazy in my mid to late teens, i had quite a number of entries that started with “I have a new pen”. It seemed that when I had a new pen to write with, it was worthwhile to note that i had a new pen, if only for the reason that the writing in the journal would change colors.
SO tonight I have a new pen, a program called WriteRoom. It’s a text editor that runs on MacOSX. I have installed a 30 day trial and based on how I feel so far I might actually pay the $25 it costs to register it.
So I am looking at a black screen with green letters on it. Old school. Just me and the text. Except there aren’t even any menus like there were in the DOS=based programs like VolksWriter that i used in the mid 80’s.
So this is my new pen: being able to type the text in as though i was using an old IBM PC XT with a green screen. Of course, if i just hit escape, I can get back to the big old Finder and other applications, but for sheer typing and not getting distracted by your shiny computer, this just might be the way to go.

So today Michelle and I went to see the Artisans and Kings exhibit at the Denver Art Museum. This was a selected collection from the louvre that’s been running since October or so and today was the last day of the exhibit. We got out a little late, but decided to short circuit the wait by becoming members of the museum. I surprised Michelle by my logic, because it’s seemed to her that i was dragging my feet. I was, a little, but because I have had the impression that it was an expensive proposition to go to the museum.
A couple years ago, while paying our way into a big exhibit at the natural history museum (i think it was Body Works) we realized that for the difference in cost between just going to the exhibit and becoming members of the museum, if we went twice more we’d make money, and that if it was free to go i think we’d go more often. In this case, it turned out to be the difference between $36 to go or $70 to become members. SO I guess we’re pillars of our community now.
The exhibit was more exciting to Michelle than it was for me. Much of what makes these works amazing is the incredible detail on the pottery, statues, tapestries, etc. The pieces were from the time of Louis the XIV, XV and XVI, just up to the time of the Revolution. In fact, the fun fact for me today was that the louve was established after the French Revolution because the items gathered in it had been the providence of the very wealthy and privileged and would now be available to all.
I am really enjoying this writing tool. This one works under MacOSX, I wonder if there’s something like it for WIndoze.
