“Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House” 1948 starring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy: An early attempt at “The Money Pit”, cary grant is a harried new york ad executive sharing a one-bathroom apartment with his wife and two daughters. The solution comes in the form of a “fixer upper” in connecticut. Lots of interesting 40’sims:
- husband and wife slept in separate beds. Said michelle “it’s a wonder anyone had any kids”
- they have a live-in maid in this 1-bedroom apartment. Of course she’s black.
- smoking pipes and pulling out a bottle of booze in the office. ’scuse me?
- of course she doesnt work outside the house. This movie has Cary Grant being his usual clueless self. I wonder who Cary Grant would be if he was an equivalent actor today… “Steal This Movie II” - This was an impulse grab from miniova as i was looking up other things. It was a documentary about copying information via the internet. A somewhat sublimical voice at the beginning said “this is not a movie about piracy.. this is not a movie about copyright violation” yet it deals with the uproar about illegal copying by comparing it to how the printing press was greeted with Gutenberg. Seems that france had a govt controlled printing industy, so the pirate printers (who sold thsir shit much like the open market dvd merchants) printed outside of france and sold it on the open market. This free distribution of information was also linked to the french revolution. The bottom line is that you can’t stop piracy, you can’t shut off the internet, “everything has already been downloaded”, that trying to stop piracy was to try to go agains what the net is best at.
