fast broke..

And I was gonna be so responsible and shit. Today was the 10th day, it would technically be 10 days sometime late tonite.. er, about now. Supposedly you’re supposed to break it gently, like maybe ease into orange juice for a day, piece of fruit maybe, then maybe soup.. fuck that. I was hungry. But still, it started with miso soup. that should be nice and mellow, right? broth, tofu.. oh, and seaweed. We went to kokoro (michelle decided to break hers at 8 days because the nagging aches that have been nagging the last few days were getting to her) and each ordered a double order of miso soup, and a cup of hot green tea. Drove over to where (we thought) we had an appointment, and inhaled the bowl of soup in under 5 minutes. damn, that was good, but i want MORE, Seymour!!! We walked into the the office building where we were headed, only to discover we werent supposed to be there til tomorrow. On the way there, we walked past a Panera restaurant (yummy bread, sourdough bowls of chili or clam chowder or … Did I mention that I have developed a keen sense of fantasizing about food?) M said that we might have to stop there afterwards. 5 minutes later, having discovered our mistake, we were standing outside Panera, deciding whether and just how we were going to be bad. Did i want to load up on carbs and starch so soon? hmm.. well what would we do otherwise? i said i’d been thinking sushi for a while. So we went round to Sonoda’s, the one at 6th and broadway. Michelle ordered a bottle of sake, i ordered more green tea, figuring that someone needed to stay sober, no telling what our tolerance was going to be like at this point. tuna nigiri, yellowtail nigiri and a rainbow roll later, and with salads topped with that wonderful ginger salad dressing - you can buy a container from them to take home with you, i’m gonna be digging the next few salads I eat. mmmm.. I’m so usually not that descriptive of food. This is very unlike me. driving home, decided to take a side trip to Barnes & Noble to check out a book that was recommended to me called “the four hour work week”. Where was B&N? Boulder, and as it turned out, i had this thought just before we got to highway 7, so a straight shot to Boulder. I have to say at this point that i feel fortunate, now, to have broken the code about Boulder. I’m amazed at how many people who live here, some for longer than me, who just don’t get Boulder. Having driven a service truck around there for a couple years, I’m not one of those. Got to B&N, realized they were open til 11, but they’re right next door to Whole Foods. We use Nature’s gate shampoo, and that’s where we usually get it, so decided to go there for the last few minutes before 9, to get shampoo.. and some salad fixings for the next couple days (the fridge isn’t exactly bursting with food).. and walking through the rest of the store, we kept wanting to get this, that and the other thing that we didn’t need. Even though we had just finished dinner, we were shopping hungry. Bad idea. We stayed the course, the only impulse thing we stayed with was some pita and some hummus. went next door to B&N next, found the book at 30% off, with another 10% off with our B&N discount card. The kicker: the 30% off sale was over today, so if we’d not taken that impulsive side trip, we’d have ended up paying full price. We also bought a $12.98 discount book of sheet music of classic piano pieces. One of the outcomes of our cleaning frenzy of the last week or two was that M’s piano has been excavated, and she’s able to play it instead of it being merely a display shelf. This is a Very Good Thing because now M can exercise her fingers (important since her elbow dislocation of a couple years ago, right about now, i think) and i can hear someone play a piano. M’s trying to convince me that she’s not very good at playing the piano, but I don’t know any better. i assured her that i’m not a very good drummer, either, but nobody seems to mind. just before we got home, we stopped for a $1 fudge sundae at McDonalds. Yup, ending the fast gradually my ass. As I have been writing this, i have been serenaded by piano music. Life is good. .ps 9 days.. still not doing that one thing. no real urges for it either. I could get used to this, perhaps. Anyways, I can always go back to being a degenerate later if i feel like it. oh, and tomorrow will mark 9 weeks no cigarettes. M’s still smokin herbal blends, but is clear of the real urge. I’m proud of her, especially in light of her not picking up a pack last night. but that’s another story that won’t get told here.
