Live at the Fillmore East, June 1971
I don’t even have to re-listen to this album, but I will, cuz I like it
so much. I had to find the largest version of this album cover I could
because it’s just .. so .. i don’t know, how about “lead No 2 pencil”..
You know, the irony is that I love this album, but I’ll prolly only
listen to it once for this review. I was singing along with the whole
thing, including some pretty m racy lyrics (“girls from all over the
world/love to write my name on the bathroom wall”) I never bought this
album on vinyl, the cover never really grabbed me, there was always
something else to get, etc. But I got it as a CD, and it quickly became
one of my favorites. I still didn’t know the “Flo & Eddie”
connection to the Turtles, so I didn’t understand why “Happy Together”
was chosen as the song on the charts, with a bullet!! a HULLET!! To me
this is the classic Flo & Eddie & Zappa album. Recorded
live in the Fillmore East in NYC. The first half is a story told by the
members of the band about some girls who liked to hang out with rock
stars. Sexually explicit lyrics include sodomy by bottle, “his dik is a
monster”, and much more. The album starts out with “House I used To live
in”, which was on a previous album. Then on to the story.. For an
encore, they come back out to play a bunch of other songs, including
peaches en regalia. The whole side 2 of the record was instrumental jam
bandiness, with some vocals by those crazy guys. Classic FZ low-budget
cover, the most important part of which is on the back at the bottom:
“remember to register to vote”. Guessing that not enough did so.
