wazzup..

I went to the doctor today about getting the plate out of my ankle. This was the same doc who put the plate in me in the first place back in 2002. He tried twisting my ankle in a couple odd ways, and had that worried “hmmm” that only doctors can have. He took some x-rays, including one in which he twisted my ankle while the pic was taken.

The plate is still there (duh) looking just like it ever has, but apparently there is much more slop in my ankle than there ought to be. There was a place where the leg bone meets the collection of foot bones and it should have about 5 degrees of movement, but it has 15 degrees.

Short version is that while this looseness might not be enough of a problem to justify cutting my ankle open, as long as we are removing hardware, the same incision could be used to “rebuild” the tendons/ligaments of my ankle. The main difference was between a short recovery (a week to have hardware out) vs more like 6 weeks to recover from ankle reconstruction.

So I’m expecting a call from their office tomorrow to talk about scheduling this surgery. Crutches here I come!!

.ps I might need some help mowing my lawn later in the summer :)
