and now back to reality…
Big weekend.. we had the drumcircle saturday nite. We took several counts, and decided that this one was 100 people. A new record. Again. We’ve set new records nearly every month since last May. It’s now at a size where “too big” is possible.
Is too big possible? yes. I saw some video of a drumcircle in Atlanta that had supposedly 300+ people. That’s too big for me; I hope that we don’t have to deal with that around here.
The circle itself was fun. Will and Molly came over early, we grilled some burgers and chicken on the bbq. We made some brownies to share, much fun was had by all.
Well, most. These circles have thrived with a minimum of facilitation mojo. For the most part, they run themselves. Mostly the music goes where it wants. I’ve often complained that in the drumcircles I go to, hardly anyone brings dunduns. Well I’ve got a different problem now. Some folks are bringing them, but they play the same rhythm all the time. In unwavering tempo.
This is good for an African dance class, where the drummers are expected to stick wtih the same rhythm for a couple hours on end, at the same tempo for the dancers. But that can stifle things in a circle like this one. Oh goody, a new problem to solve.
Saturday night had its share of drama, but i’m not gonna go into that.
Sunday, watched tv for hours.. We’ve been watching through 24 season 4 most recently. I’ll be pretty happy when we’re done with that series. Sunday and montya i was looking for a new Sopranos, but it seems that HBO took a week off because there arent any new torrents.
Monday we had some folks over for bbq, this time we deep fried a turkey (thanks, Scott, for bringing your turkey fryer). We moved the turntables out on the lawn so that records could be played. We had a problem when we plugged it all together: there’s some kind of ground issue that caused minor shocks when touching the decks or mixer if the amplifier was plugged in. Not a big one, but enough that Will didn’t think he could mix like that. We found a temporary solution, tho, when he put on some latex gloves. DJ Mickey Mouse!!
I got kinda fucked up, and when the evening was over, many things didn’t get put away right. I ended up putting the turntables away this evening after work.
as is usually the case, there’s whole swaths of my life that isn’t fit for livejournal.. oh well.
