Cathy was my workmate at World Computer Corporation, my first “tech” job.

Cathy had a few influential things on me. She had taken a long backpacking trip to Australia and had many stories about it. This led to Diane and I deciding we were going to go to Australia and announce as much on our wedding announcement when that happened. We didn’t end up going there.

At one point Cathy was dating our boss, Dave Richter. That was a little odd. In that time, ~1982, there wasn’t as strong a “don’t date your coworkers” culture as there is now. WCC was a small company, but big enough to have a HR person/department.

How did we meet

I had started as a data entry clerk in the General Ledger department, but soon ran out of work. I got another gig in the Quality Control, which was in the “other building” further down on Telegraph. There I met Rose Olejniczak, who was pretty good friends with Cathy. After a few months there, they opened a new full-time position back in the main building as a full time computer operation, and I worked under Cathy.

I remember Cathy being a short blonde with an attitude.
