Aphrodesia cordial
Aphrodesia is a cordial, which is a liquor like brandy or vodka that has had spices steeped in it. Got this recipe from my friend Dana Piper.
This came with a word doc which explains all the things. The basic recipe is essentially letting these spices steeped over about a week, then filtered.
You should be able to find whole coriander at your local grocery store, if it has a good spice selection.
Black cardamom might be harder to find, but you can do the recipe without it if you need to.
If you can’t find candied ginger, go ahead and use a slice or two of fresh ginger (not 2 Tablespoons worth though, that’d be too hot! Maybe 1 Tablespoon). I think we only used candied ginger in this recipe because we’d run out of fresh, anyway.
Mostly, the spices in this recipe are so potent, you can play with amounts and ingredients a bit without making a major difference in the final flavor.
It won’t do you any good if you’re making this tomorrow, but an excellent source for exotic spices of all kinds is Penzeys.com. That’s where we get ALL of ours.
Good luck, and happy tastings! :-)
