what is it like to be 63 in 2025
I’ve lived through almost all of the times of humans going to space, and sending probes to space, since I was borm months after John Glenn orbited earth. It’s exciting learning what is recently discovered.
I lived through presidents 35 til 47. I’ve seen us in and out of the Vietnam War, Grenada, Afghanistan, Iraq… None of these wars were particular needed or useful.
I have witnessed things in my lifetime that most haven’t. I’ve been alive long enough that it seems like I’ve seen cycles come and to and come back again, and I think I know things that those who haven’t seen these things. Reading about it in books doesn’t necessarily have you understand them.
I am on the verge of what would have been retirement age, yet I fear I will have to work until I did because I don’t have enough savings to be able to actually retire.
I have seen enough change in the average climate that what is coming scares me, and I fear for what kind of world the young will grow into.
I have stories to tell, and some folks are interested in hearing them. I’m prioritizing saving at least some of them so that they might survive my death.
I think about death a bunch. I don’t really fear it, but I don’t want to leave a big mess for whomever has to deal with what remains behind. I used to be ok with dying soon, but recently I feel like i want to live for a while longer. Carlos Castaneda calls death an advisor, and I feel that.
I have friends who are young, and I like to talk to them both to pass on what I know and have experienced as well as learn from them.
